Dear Choir,
I hope you are all enjoying this lovely summer. I have much good news to share which I hope will give you a clearer view of what the next season of singing together will bring.
We’re moving! New Rehearsal Room
After a very positive meeting this week with the Mayor of Eymet we are delighted to confirm that Cantabile’s new rehearsal venue is now fully ready for us, so that from 13th September we shall meet at Eymet’s brand new La Salle Multi-Activités (Avenue de Lattre de Tassigny. 24500 Eymet).
This is an excellent rehearsal space for our needs, is large enough to hold concerts in and the acoustic is good. The building is on one level, so no stairs to climb, has new toilet facilities and kitchen. There is ample parking and it’s very easy to find. The building is at the far end of Avenue du General de Gaulle which comes directly off Le Boulevard Nationale, opposite La Cour d’Eymet Restaurant.
I think we shall be able to settle in well and benefit from Eymet’s continuing support for what we do.
New Programme for 2023/24
The Committee has decided that for 2023/24 we will perform two concerts in early December, one of which will be in Eymet, and two concerts in May.
This will leave those of you who are free to sing with us in June to participate in some of the many musical events in our region such as the World Day of Music (Fête de la Musique) on 21st June and so contribute further to the life of our communities.
We’ll round off the year with our customary summer break in July and August.
December Concerts: Save the Dates!
We will perform an appealing seasonal programme which looks forward to Christmas and the new year, including Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, O Magnum Mysterium by Morten Lauridsen and Bach’s beautiful Chorale Preludes Wachet Auf and O Jesus Christ, Meins Lebens LIcht.
Please save these provisional weekend dates for the two December performances on your calendars: weekend of 8th, 9th, 10th December and weekend of 15th, 16th, 17th December. We’ll confirm the specific dates as soon as we can.
Christmas Carol Service: Eymet
On 20th December, we will sing at the joint Catholic - Anglican Eymet Carol Service as usual, followed by ‘Carols in the Square’ afterwards.
May Concerts: music to inspire
We will perform an uplifting repertoire which will include Vivaldi’s Magnificat and the John Rutter’s Feel the Spirit cycle of spirituals.
We hope to perform outside again at Castillonnès’s Cour de l’Hôtel de Ville which proved a great success this year and in Issigeac where we were so warmly welcomed at Easter.
Our first meeting: 13th September
We will begin with an opportunity to meet with our new Music Directors ,Adrian and Peps, over a glass of wine or soft drink; to extend a warm welcome to our new members and to each and every one of you. We have invited the Mayor of Eymet to join us at our first meeting.
No subscription money will be called for at this introductory session. However, please remember to bring back your purple music folders and the copies purchased for you of Little Jazz Mass.
On 20th September, we shall be collecting your subscription (€30) for this semester and €10 for your copy of the Fantasia on Christmas Carols music. Payment by cash or cheque, please.
On behalf of the Committee, I very much look forward to seeing everyone again on September 13th and to a great season of singing and having fun together!
With my best wishes
David
